Overview of PottsDNA.com

Several haplogroup clusters of Potts Family ancestors have been identified in yDNA tests. PottsDNA.com was created to assist people researching genetic matches of the Potts Family Surname. The goal is to try to assist in their efforts to find common connections. It's a place where information on Potts family lines can be shared in hopes that descendants conducting ancestral research will discover how they connect via research, yDNA testing or both.

Northern European Potts

Five confirmed members of POTTS Ancestry have had yDNA testing and have been confirmed as haplogroup I-M253. They represent our Scandinavian/Nordic Potts Haploytype branch. Haplogroup I1 is the most common I subclade in northern Europe. It is found mostly in Scandinavia and Finland, where it typically represents over 35% of the male Y-chromosomes.

Western Slavic Potts

At the moment we have only two confirmed Western Slavic R1a samples in the Potts Family Tree DNA studies. The good news is they appear to be a close match with a 2 step genetic difference at 37 markers and it appears that they may indeed be in-line relatives. These Dutch/Prussian/Polish Potts are undoubtedly connected through Pennsylvania Potts.

Eastern European Potts

There are currently over 30+ matching R-M269 Potts family members that have been tested. While these proto-celtic Potts are perhaps the most prolific Haplotype branch in the studies and have had the most research done on them, their sheer numbers make cutting through all the records to separate family clusters even more difficult. yDNA segmentation should help assist us in our efforts.
